Michael Baker International’s Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.
This position will support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (MAP) Customer and Data Services (CDS) contract by means of managing operations of the FEMA Map Information eXchange (FMIX) contact center. The candidate will join a team of experienced project managers and technical subject matter experts on broad array of disciplines, geographers and GIS analysts, community engagement and risk communication professionals.
Tasks of this position include providing project management assistance related to the FMIX operations and delivering communication of FEMA programs. As an Assistant Project Manager, you will assist in planning, direction, and coordination activities under the supervision of a Project Manager to ensure the goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within scope, schedule, budget, and quality parameters set.
Being an Assistant Project Manager in Michael Baker’s Alexandria office means that no two days will be the same. You will face different challenges every day.
Most days will be spent in the office interacting and collaborating across a team of internal and external people to perform general project management activities that may include:
•Supporting project planning, monitoring and controlling budgets.
•Supporting status reporting and client communications.
•Supporting established standard operations procedures and updating processes, as required.
•Supporting the identification of existing or emerging problems and working with team members to communicate, mitigate, and/or resolve.
•Building client relationships and working directly with client leadership, as required.
•Providing coaching and supporting the professional development of project staff.
•Preparing written documentation that may include presentations, process documents and workflows, among others.

•You’ll need a four-year Bachelor Degree and 5-7 years of related experience. Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geology, Environmental Science or other earth science-related degree.
•Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

•The ideal candidate will also possess knowledge of FEMA’s Risk MAP Program and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) as well as experiences involving customer-centric operations.
•Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to long term success in this role.
•Naturally, you’ll need computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Visio and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
•Having Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certifications are a plus but not required.
