Storm-Water Management-Sustainability Intern

The Intern will provide specialized technical data gathering support services to the overall project of storm-water management, low impact development and habitat improvements on campus in partnership with EcoSuperior. This position is intended to provide first-time employment in a field related to the graduate’s education. It is for a one year period and is funded through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation’s Youth Internship Program.  Duties include but are not limited to:

• Organizing and implementing plans for the construction, planting and maintenance of rain gardens, low impact development sites and riparian improvement zones on campus;
• Sampling for water quality during the summer/fall season on the McIntyre River to assess storm water impacts;
• Creating specialized maps and reports to identify run-off areas of concern;
• Collecting, organizing, analyzing and reporting data obtained throughout the project timelines;
• Providing support in advancing the college’s sustainability plan through engagement with the committee and the college community on issues of environmental stewardship;
• Maintaining training support equipment in such condition as to ensure effective conduct of workshop labs and classes;
• Managing the purchase, acquisition and replacement/setup of workshop equipment, training aids and consumables; and
• Facilitating tours and demonstrations of program facilities or equipment for visitors to the facility.

Who is eligible? University and college graduates who have graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university. Candidates must be graduates of post-secondary degree or diploma programs. The position must provide the intern with first time employment in their field of study. Candidates are only eligible to participate in the internship program one time. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The position is for a one year period and is funded through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation’s Northern Ontario Internship Program.
