Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one bilingual imperative CBC/CBC indeterminate in Montreal, Quebec. A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar term or indeterminate positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada with various language requirements and conditions of employment.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION – Education:
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in biological sciences or in a scientific field related to the duties of the position.
Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).
Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
a) Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
b) Operational research and scientific analysis;
c) Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS – Experiences
E1. Experience in the design, development and execution of aquatic ecology research projects.
E2. Experience in the analysis and interpretation of scientific data and the use of bio-statistical tools.
E3. Experience in publishing scientific papers and presenting scientific results (i.e., conferences, workshops).
E4. Experience supervising field and/or laboratory personnel.

K1. Knowledge of the structure and functioning of freshwater aquatic ecosystems.

K3. Knowledge of methods of sampling, examination and analysis of biological material.

A1. Ability to define and implement multi-disciplinary research projects.
A2. Ability to supervise human resources and manage material and financial resources dedicated to projects.
A3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Knowledge of ecology of cyanobacteria and dynamics of toxin production.
ASSETS QUALIFICATIONS – Experiences
The diversity of assets will be considered by the selection committee in relation to the study profile, considering that the same candidate may not have all these assets.
AE1. Experience in the use of advanced microscopy technologies.
AE2. In-depth experience (over 2 years) of research related to aquatic microbiology projects.
AE3. Extensive experience (more than 2 years) in the identification of species using a classical taxonomy approach.
AE4. In-depth experience (more than 2 years) in the use of tools in molecular biology.
