The successful candidate will be a fellow within the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action ETN Training Network »System-Risk – A large scale systems approach to flood risk assessment and management«. He/she will work on a project on the assessment of large-scale flood risk considering river-dike-floodplain interactions and related spatial risk redistribution.

Your responsibilities:
improve one-dimensional hydrodynamic model of river network coupled to a two-dimensional inundation model
conduct large-scale hydraulic modelling of flood scenarios considering river-dike-floodplain interactions
present the results in international conference and in scientific papers

Your qualifications:
excellent M.Sc. or an equivalent degree in hydrology, civil engineering or related mathematical/engineering sciences
ability to independently develop and implement novel research approaches
fundamental knowledge of flood risk concepts
experience in hydrodynamic, numerical  modelling
solid computer programming skills (preferably in Fortran, R, Matlab)
proficient oral and written English skills

The applicants must meet the European Commission’s eligibility criteria:

Early-stage researchers (ESRs) are in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers, starting at the date of obtaining their master’s degree (or similar). All nationalities can apply, but you can only apply to a project which is hosted in a country in which you did not reside or carry your main activities (such as work or study) for more than 12 months within the last 3 years. This excludes short stays such as holidays or compulsory national service.

Starting date: as soon as possible
Fixed term: 16 months
Working hours: full-time (currently 39h/week) 
Salary: set according to thr Work Programme for Marie Curie Actions
Location: Potsdam
