SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to provide river modeling and statistical analysis for the Brazos River Authority (BRA). This is accomplished by assisting with water supply planning and operations for the Brazos River Basin; monitoring operations of BRA reservoirs; contributing to the development of the Water Management Plan for the BRA’s water supply system; implementing the System Operations Permit; utilizing an array of computer-based applications, including existing hydrologic and water rights models and standard office software; developing and applying pre and post-processing algorithms for existing hydrologic models; developing and calibrating models; developing and/or customizing hydrologic models; and using hydrologic databases from a variety of sources. Additional functions include applying tools and skills to perform hydrologic analyses of rainfall, runoff, stream flow, reservoir operations, river hydrology, reservoir hydrology, sedimentation, interaction of surface water and groundwater, and other hydrologic processes for estimating the effects of various operating strategies on rivers, reservoirs, and aquifers; and any other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Work requires advanced knowledge of hydrologic principles, methods, and practices; experience in water resources planning, processes, and procedures including river modeling and statistical analysis; knowledge and experience with application development in one or more of the model platforms listed above; knowledge of Texas water rights system; education or experience with complex statistical and hydrologic analyses; and excellent organizational skills and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Hydrology, Statistics, or related field is required with five or more years of experience in Water Resources, Hydrology, Earth Science, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent training, education, and experience. Master’s Degree and Professional Engineering Designation are preferred.
Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position will require some rotating 24hour on call duty for emergency calls.
$66,935 to $87,015. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position.
