Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Extension to Agriculture and Natural Resources with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking applications for an Extension Program Specialist II – Water Quality Program.
The Extension Program Specialist will work closely with the Water Quality Program Manager and the Conservation Learning Group to assist in the coordination, creation and delivery of communication and outreach programming, materials, publications, evaluation, and reporting related to water quality and flood reduction projects. The incumbent will assist with the development of water quality education and outreach, agricultural and conservation professional training, farmer field days and on-farm education; facilitate improved communication planning and social media relations with farmers, water quality professionals and others affiliated with the projects. The incumbent will serve as one of the educators conducting Conservation Station and Water Rocks! outreach events throughout the year. The incumbent will translate complex scientific knowledge on cover crops, water, soil health, and conservation into various displays and curriculum materials to appeal to a wide range of audiences from 5 year-olds to adults.
The Extension Program Specialist II will be expected to create and deliver comprehensive and complex communications and outreach materials on water quality and soil health issues; identify and implement innovative ways to meet clients’ needs; and provide project leadership and subject-matter expertise.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals and groups. A proven track record of successful farmer outreach is a strong requirement. The incumbent will be expected to work effectively both individually and in team settings and have the ability to develop strong working relationships with Iowa State University faculty and staff as well as partners and clientele within the water quality industry. In order to be successful in the position, the candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple work assignments at one time.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Degree in water resources, environmental science, geologic or hydrologic sciences, agronomy, agricultural engineering or closely related field.
Experience with water quality or natural resources education or outreach development as part of a watershed project(s).
Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Midwest agriculture and conservation practices including experience with demonstration plots and field days.
Experience with social media, web content creation, and GIS software.
