12-month part-time, fixed-term contract (22.5 hrs) – salary between £21,000 and £26,000 dependent on experience plus benefits including 6% pension Reportable to: Evidence and Engagement Team Manager
The Westcountry Rivers Trust is an environmental charity that works across the region to improve our rivers and watercourses for the benefit of all. We work with EU grants, Water Company funded initiatives and government funding to deliver change both in our rivers and on the land that they drain.
Westcountry Rivers Trust is recruiting a Community SuDS Officer to join the project team for SPONGE 2020, an exciting project delivering climate change adaptation measures in urban areas in Somerset.
This specialist role, sitting in the Trust’s Evidence and Engagement Team, will be part-time and fixed-term, and will involve frequent visits to Taunton, possibly up to multiple times a week. Your role within the project will be to design retrofit SuDS schemes and oversee their implementation on sites at a variety of scales, from individual houses to street and neighbourhood scale.
With demonstrable experience in SuDS design and delivery, you will be confident in conducting site visits, delivering SuDS designs, preparing technical documents and visually engaging drawings, getting relevant permissions and appointing and supervising contractors with minimal supervision. As part of this role, you will deliver SuDS co-creation workshops and community engagement events with a variety of stakeholders including, but not limited to, residents, community groups and representatives of council departments and water companies, therefore excellent communication skills are essential.
We are looking for a collaborative team member willing to share skills and experience with the WRT team. You will be creative, flexible and able to design outputs with multiple objectives in mind. You will hold a relevant degree or other qualification. You will have experience in delivering retrofit SuDS projects at a range of scales and will be confident in the use of relevant software to support this work. You should also have experience working with community groups and other stakeholders. We are looking for someone who is passionate about sustainability, conservation and sustainable water management and who believes in making people part of the solution to environmental issues.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team and to work on a multi-million € EU project with partners in the Netherlands, Belgium and the South East UK.
