Communications Officer

The Communications Officer will develop capacities in our network offices while ensuring the implementation of our communications, webpage and brand strategies. S/he will facilitate the interchange of tools, visuals and stories from the field amongst the network of offices and is the point of contact for our global communications. Together with leading technical staff, s/he ensures that media and other content opportunities related to story creation, blogging and visual content have the right technical and factual approach.

Profile of the candidate

The Communications Officer has experience in website, social media management, public relations and content creation. S/he is an experienced writer who can portray complex technical information in an attractive, clear and engaging way, through different communication products and use a variety of channels. S/he is proactive, creative and optimistic, with interest in wetlands and sustainable development and a passion for making a difference, with a preference for achieving outcomes in collaboration with others. S/he has a results-oriented approach and proposes ways to innovate and continuously improve our communications products, practices, channels and messaging.

Main responsibilities

  • Focus person to coordinate the design and content creation of our online and printed communications products;
  • Enable and support the coherent and consistent use and implementation of existing strategies for the website, communications and brand, by the whole organisation;
  • Manage and improve the website and its navigation, including, design, helpdesk support and troubleshooting technical issues;
  • Develop social media strategy while providing strategic advice to improve outreach to targeted audiences based on analytics;
  • Research, plan, write and edit online content and monthly global e-newsletter;
  • Work with website developers, designers, writers, editors, printers, photographers and filmmakers to develop communications products;
  • Assist our network offices through training and skills development, and by sharing products such as infographics, videos, and others that are usable in different countries and regions;
  • Coordinate along with the team conferences and events: develop messaging, plans for promotion and social media, audio/visual support, filming and photography;
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with technical colleagues in the head office and country offices to create and validate content;
  • Manage contact with journalists and another kind of media;
  • Write and distribute press releases;
  • Supervise the work of an intern.

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as a Communications Officer
  • Bachelors in Communications or related degree
  • Fluent level English speaker with excellent writing skills
  • Track record of managing websites and social media outreach, creating and editing content
  • Efficient, well-structured, and highly organised to balance frequent and often overlapping requests for support
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress architecture and programming
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in cross-cultural communication and international environments
  • Technically savvy (knowledge of various content management systems, MailChimp, various social media platforms, SEO and Google Analytics)
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

Desired skills and experience

  • Working proficiency in additional languages, especially French, Spanish, Dutch advantageous
  • Experience visualising information, including the creation of infographics
  • Experience with media and journalism
  • Experience with photography and video
  • Eligible to work in the Netherlands

Job offer

  • Reporting to: Head of Communications and Advocacy
  • Part-time: 32 hours per week (Fulltime is 36 hours)
  • Salary Euro 2.500 – 4.200 based on a fulltime contract
  • Contract duration: 1-year contract with the intention of extension
  • Location: Head Office in Ede, The Netherlands
  • Start date: beginning of July 2018
