Canadian Water Network convenes the right conversations with networks of experts and stakeholders from all levels of government, industry, academia and non‐governmental organizations and, together with other relevant research and information, extracts insights on a variety of water issues relevant to Canadians. We communicate these evidence‐informed insights in a clear, neutral, accessible way to enable decision‐ makers to tackle water management priorities. Accountable to the Manager, Municipal Programs, the Research Analyst will monitor existing and emerging national and regional water‐related issues, regulations and research relevant to the municipal sector in order to support:  

  • the development of new initiatives;  
  • priority‐setting and scoping; 
  • identification of stakeholder, client or governmental priorities;
  • landscape scans;
  • identification or pursuit of business opportunities; and
  • gap analyses.  

In addition, the Research Analyst will conduct background research using a variety of tools and from a number of sources such as surveys, interviews, expert panels, workshops, databases, online sources, peer‐reviewed or technical literature, and policy or regulatory documents. This information will be collated, synthesized and delivered as technical, research, business or background documents, reports or presentations in support of CWN contracts, projects or other initiatives.  

The Research Analyst will participate in the identification, development and maintenance of relationships with a wide range of individuals at various levels within municipal utilities, industry, government, academia and non‐governmental organizations. The Research Analyst will also work to obtain input, expert advice and stakeholder perspectives from these groups. This input will support CWN initiatives in addition to the design and development of workshops, meetings and the annual national Blue Cities conference.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge‐synthesis skills, including the ability to discern the implications of complex and scientific information, ability to assimilate new information quickly and a strong interest in learning;
  • excellent verbal and writing skills, both in technical and plain language;
  • strong presentation and facilitation skills;
  • comfortable in a fast‐paced environment with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple activities;
  • highly analytical — both qualitatively and quantitatively — with meticulous attention to detail;
  • comfortable working with a diverse range of people with different expertise, perspectives and professional  backgrounds from industry, government, NGOs, and academia;
  • ability to effectively work with and harness the capacity of volunteers;
  • master’s degree in environmental science, science or engineering or equivalent experience; additional background in business, management, statistics or information/knowledge management an asset; and
  • 3‐5 years of experience in a data/knowledge management, analyst or equivalent position in an environmental science or engineering capacity.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French would be considered an asset.  

This position is located in Waterloo, Ontario.
