International Medical Corps is a leading international humanitarian agency who responds to the population’s health and psychosocial needs in humanitarian settings, while also supporting the recovery of systems and services in transitional and development contexts. Currently, the technical team provides leadership and advisory support across International Medical Corps HQ departments, contributes to global policy and practice and direct technical support to country program teams inclusive of: health, gender based violence, mental health & psychosocial support, water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition & food security and monitoring and evaluation.
The situation in regards to water supply and sanitation in health facilities in particular in humanitarian and transitional settings is often deficient. International Medical Corps’ WASH strategy acknowledges this need, and prioritizes addressing the issue in a systematic and pro-active manner. This position is thereby focused on leading this specific WASH strategic direction to achieve consistent delivery of integrated, evidence based interventions at health facilities in humanitarian and transitional settings.
The technical unit has four main objectives from the strategy, which will be the foundation of all specialists work;
Standards and Approaches; IMC has developed sector based, technical minimum standards for all country missions. The post holder will use the roll out plan to disseminate, train and support country teams to implement, apply and adopt these agreed standards. The post holder will work closely with M&E and compliance to ensure the minimum standards are being monitored and evaluated on a regular basis.
Evidence based practices: The post holder will seek learning opportunities that inform evidence-based program improvement, policy development and global best practices.
Capacity Building; The post holder will need to continually map technical field capacity to outline capacity building priorities, systematic training and to manage gaps in the field.
Technical Competencies; Using a yearly framework, the post holder will need to develop trainings and a core competency framework to improve current competencies with technical staff. Peer to peer discussion will help support the technical staff in the field.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values to staff and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values.
