The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) / Development Policy and Analysis Division (DPAD), in the Office of the Director. The internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to a maximum of 6 months total depending on the needs of the Department.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or in the office to which they are assigned.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Assist in desktop work to organize and update capacity development files in a OneDrive location, including but not limited to updating a database of training activities, results, and number of participants.
• Support in the organization of training activities in modelling tools for sustainable development policies, including logistical arrangements.
• Support in drafting concept notes related to capacity development activities.
• Support in organizing a news section of the capacity development activities, to be uploaded to the Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development Policies website.
• Contribute to the preparation of the Trieste Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development, including assistance with participant list updates, documentation, and logistical arrangements.
• Assist in gathering articles, publications, and data sets relevant to the Climate, land-use, energy and water systems integrated assessment and/or sectorial models.
• Assist in reviewing government policies and national development plans in countries where DPAD is implementing modelling-based capacity development projects. Focus will be on climate change, adaptation and mitigation policies, energy plans, land-use coverage and policies, and water demands, availability and planning.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
• Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
