As part of the Sectoral Department at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the Competence Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Policy delivers services for GIZ projects financed by German federal ministries and other public sector clients, such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The Competence Centre is the holder of technical and methodological knowledge in the rapidly growing fields of climate and environment. It has networks with the private sector, with national and international organisations, and with the academic community. The Competence Centre works on technical, methodological and management-related innovations, particularly in the context of climate change. It is responsible for knowledge management and for designing modern learning processes. In addition, the Competence Centre advises projects in GIZ’s field structure on planning, implementation and quality assurance, as well as on monitoring and evaluating projects/programmes focusing on greenhouse gas reduction, adaptation to climate change, climate governance and climate finance. The Competence Centre’s core tasks continue to include technical and methodological advice on environmental and sustainability strategies, the SDGs, CSR, environmental impact assessments, urban and industrial environmental protection, environmental policy and green economy, as well as environmental and climate safeguards screening.
