The Assistant Professor will provide exceptional knowledge of agriculture, hydrology, and research needs to provide for: direction of efforts in Hydrological System Dynamics & Resilience, analyze experiment results and create statistical analysis, interpret data, and summarize results and prepare reports. The Assistant Professor is a 12 month, 100% research position.
- Development and leadership of a state-wide, nationally and internationally recognized research program in Hydrological System Dynamics with an emphasis on regional hydrological systems and development of resilient water management practices.
- Conducting system dynamics assessment of regional hydrologic systems and optimization of water management systems.
- Participate on interdisciplinary projects that increase the understanding of the linkage between water management, climate, land use and economic systems. This includes quantifying the feedback mechanisms between all system components, from stream reach to regional scales, and examining spatial and temporal changes in system component states using GIS and remote sensing tools in extreme events.
- Partnering with the Texas Water Resources Institute, state and federal water management agencies and organizations, water districts, utilities and other water resource stakeholders.
- Join the faculty in water resources management and will be a critical team member, collaborating with scientists in geohydrology, natural resources economics, soil and water salinity, landscape horticulture, water reuse, water conservation, and other agriculture and resources management programs.
- Publish refereed papers, secure external funding, communicate effectively with faculty and stakeholders, advise graduate students, and supervise support staff and students.
- Travel in- and out-of-state is necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Work Location: Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center at El Paso. The Center is located in the growing and culturally-rich bi-national region of El Paso, Texas. In addition to being part of the Texas A&M University System, the Center is situated near and works in close partnership with two other major research universities in the region.

- The candidate is required to have, by date of appointment, a Ph.D. agricultural engineering, civil engineering, ecosystem sciences, or equivalent degree with an interest in hydrological system dynamics.
- Experience in conducting hydrology system dynamics research, particularly in areas such as the optimization of water management systems, and quantifying the impact of climate variability on water availability is required, along with a basic understanding of economics.
- Strong numerical modelling and/or advanced statistical analysis skills are essential, including time series and spatial data analyses.
- Expertise in GIS and Remote Sensing would be advantageous.
- Incumbent should have the interest and capability to work both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member.
- Ability to effectively communicate, provide research leadership, develop successful research proposals, and report and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals is an important qualification.
- Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
