Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Research Associate Professor level in the area of environmental engineering and water resources. This position supports collaborative projects with cities and agencies in water reclamation and reuse, water quality control, effluent management, developing new alternative water resources, studying water-economy nexus, research and education, and public and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct field scale research work with public utilities, cities, and agencies, develop water management planning documents and reports, and determine economic, environmental, and social feasibility of different water management scenarios. The successful candidate is also expected to mentor and guide undergraduate and graduate students with design and research projects.

The position is a full-time 12-month position and is supported by external grants, awards, and agreements with agencies and cities. The position is expected to be filled as soon as suitable candidate is selected, but no later than July 1, 2018. Extension of the position beyond June 30, 2019 is contingent upon funding and performance. 


Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in civil engineering with focus on environmental engineering, and at least 15 years of complex project and research experience. The experience must include focus on water reclamation planning, research, and reuse. 


Preferred Qualifications

1. Technical expertise with chemical/physical processes for the treatment of water, wastewater, reclaimed water and storm water, including pilot scale testing of such processes.

2. Experience leading a team/working in a team environment on large scale, complex, programmatic water related efforts.

3. Experience coordinating/teaching/mentoring/developing undergraduate and graduate level students to accomplish specific tasks and goals.

4. Experience working in Northern Nevada / Lake Tahoe / Truckee River Watershed.

5. Experience planning, organizing, compiling and writing complex technical documents.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is a highly research active department with over 450 BS, MS, and PhD students, 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty, and 5 research faculty and technical staff. The University of Nevada, Reno serves nearly 21,000 students. The university is ranked as a Tier I institution by ‘US News and World Report” and offers an array of degree programs at all levels. The College of Engineering which includes 5 department encompassing most of the engineering disciplines is rapidly growing and has received funding for a new engineering building to be completed in 2020. The strategic vision of the college is to serve Nevada and the nation, and educate future generations of engineering professionals.
