World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Community-based natural resource management intern
Community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) is a widely implemented conservation intervention that seeks to empower local communities to manage and benefit from natural resources. Since the 1980s, CBNRM has proliferated rapidly, particularly in southern Africa, Asia, and South America. Despite the rapid expansion of both community-based interventions and studies examining these interventions, the evidence base describing what works, what doesn’t, and why, remains limited. To inform the design and implementation of CBNRM, WWF seeks a motivated intern to support the publication of evidence on the social and ecological impacts of CBNRM.
Responsibilities will include:
Reviewing current peer-reviewed evidence on the social and ecological impacts of community-based conservation
Supporting the statistical analysis of varied datasets, and the preparation of figures for publication
Supporting the publication of evidence on the social and ecological impacts of community-based conservation in the peer-reviewed literature
This internship is an excellent opportunity to interact with scientists and practitioners at WWF and gain exposure to the process of publishing in the scientific literature.
The successful applicant will be currently enrolled in a natural or social science degree program, with a demonstrated interest in biodiversity conservation and conservation evaluation.
This position requires strong scientific writing skills, with demonstrated experience performing statistical analyses in R/RStudio. Knowledge of community-based natural resource management, or conservation issues in sub-Saharan Africa is desirable. Familiarity with quasi-experimental impact evaluation a bonus.
Unpaid. For all unpaid internships, applicants must be enrolled in school and be able to obtain academic course credit from their university.
