Job Summary

Located in the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE), Urban Sustainability Administration (USA), this position will advise and support coordination within the Urban Sustainability Administration, the agency, and with community partners to broaden and strengthen climate adaptation and mitigation efforts on behalf of the city, as well as maximize equitable outcomes related to climate action and urban sustainability. Strong facilitation, communications, project management, and analytical skills are required in addition to experience in, and knowledge of climate policy and programming.

Duties and responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to: Assisting with the implementation of the District’s climate adaptation plan, Climate Ready DC. Providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership on climate adaptation and resilience efforts, including coordination with Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA), Office of Planning (OP), Department of Health (DOH), District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and the Chief Resilience Officer (Office of the City Administrator), among others, to advance our collaborative work. Providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership, in concert with the Energy Administration, on climate mitigation research, planning and implementation. Building partnerships with community organizations to help ensure that the District Government’s environmental and resilience goals correspond with identified community priorities. Assisting with conducting an annual update of the District’s greenhouse gas inventory including data collection, trend analysis, and public reporting.

Qualifications and Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year-college or university in a relevant field, plus five (5) years of work related experience is preferred. At least one (1) year of which must be equivalent to the CS-12 grade level in the District of Columbia government service; Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and specialized experience.

Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
