About the Position:

The ESA Southern California Water group is seeking a Senior Managing Associate (Senior Project Manager/Project Director). Primary responsibilities include leading the CEQA and NEPA process and documentation for a wide range of projects, focused on public utility infrastructure. The candidate would directly manage project teams including sub-consultants, supervise and mentor 1-2 Associate staff, and assist with overall group administration. The role involves direct client interaction, proactive business development, and the preparing competitive proposals responding to RFPs/RFQs. This position is available our San Diego, Irvine, or Los Angeles offices.


An ideal candidate must possess effective problem-solving ability, exceptional writing and editing capabilities, as well as experience effectively managing project budgets and timelines. Strong knowledge of and experience with CEQA and NEPA compliance is a must. This role requires the initiative, confidence and tenacity to uphold ESA’s strong work-ethic and to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary, team environment. Successful candidates will have a broad-based planning related background, with a science background being a plus although not required. Experience working with public and private clients in a private consulting firm is also a plus. Qualified candidates should have at least a BA/BS in a related discipline, a minimum of 8 years’ experience; or Masters and a minimum of 6 years’ experience.
