The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level.
UN Environment’s Asia and the Pacific Office works in 41 countries across the region to promote and implement sustainable development solutions. It works in close partnership with key stakeholders including governments, the private sector, civil society, and other UN agencies. UN Environment’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific helps to implement all UN Environment’s programmes and projects in the region by initiating, coordinating and catalysing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies.
The Environmental Affairs Information Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer of UN Environment Asia and the Pacific Office.
UN Environment – Environmental Affairs Information internship is for six months, from March to August 2018.
Please note the internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours). Flexible working arrangements can be agreed with the supervisor as appropriate and needed.
Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the Environmental Affairs Information Intern will:
-Support the maintenance of projects database and use this information to develop draft documents describing the implementation of the programme of work at regional and country level;
-Perform research and analysis on regional and national environmental issues relevant to the Programme of Work of the Regional Office and develop informative briefs gathering information from various sources;
-Perform other duties as required.

-Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions
-Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems

-Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; preferably in an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) with a focus on environmental sciences, natural resource management, communication or international relations.
Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a
demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Excellent writing and communication skills in English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language or an Asian language is an asset.
