Visiting Assistant Professor in Environmental Social Sciences

The Environmental Studies department at Davidson College invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position in Environmental Social Sciences, beginning July 1, 2018.    Area of specialization is open but may include human geography, urban studies, environmental policy, conservation and sustainability, social demography and migration, food systems, environmental justice, political ecology, or environmental psychology.  The ideal candidate will be proficient in both quantitative methods (e.g. statistics, GIS, remote sensing, demographic analysis) and qualitative approaches (e.g. interviews, case studies, content analysis) for the analysis of environmental issues in both theoretical and practical applications.  The successful candidate will have a PhD in a social science discipline or interdisciplinary program by July 2018, a strong commitment to undergraduate education and interdisciplinarity, and a willingness to mentor undergraduate research projects.  The teaching load is five courses over two semesters, including lower-level required courses and upper-level elective courses in the candidate’s areas of specialization.  Position is open until filled; review of applications begins on February 15, 2018.
