As an Environment Planning Specialist, you’ll provide Devon, Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly with technical leadership on water resources issues. The successful applicant will

• Steer the direction of water company Water Resource Management Plans and Drought Plans.
• Develop a productive relationship with local water companies and contribute to the Asset
• Management Plan 7 specification, alterations and sign off.
• Facilitate water resources investigations and design implementation schemes to get the best for people and the environment
• Coordinate and deliver the Restoring Sustainable Abstraction programme
• Work with our Environment Programme team to deliver and support catchment partnerships and encourage an integrated approach to catchment management.
• Provide leadership to wider area colleagues on a range of water resources issues
• Coordinate response to dry weather incidents and ensure are plans are up to date

Our Environment Planning Team have a broad remit, focussing on both water quality and water resource challenges, and work on both freshwater and marine related challenges. We work closely with area operational teams and national colleagues, collating, analysing and sharing data to produce environmental evidence in an engaging way that informs and drives our priorities in Devon, Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly. The team are based in both our Bodmin and Exeter offices.

We are looking for someone who is versatile, self motivated and can quickly fit in and contribute to the work of our busy team. You will need to have a good understanding of environmental regulation, specifically around water resources. Ideally you’ll have a degree in an environmental subject, or relevant experience with a focus on water resources pressures. Alongside great communication skills, you’ll also need
• The ability to demonstrate leadership as an environment planning specialist
• Experience of translating technical issues for a range of audiences in order to inform or influence
• Experience of coaching, mentoring and training others to develop skills and knowledge across our area
• Awareness or experience of environment planning tools and techniques, and their outputs, to support decision making
