Forest Waters Officer

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

Gloucester, , GB

This is an exciting Officer level position in the Land Management Department that will rapidly produce and then implement a series of catchment management plans for the Cannop Brook, Blackpool Brook, Cinderford Brook and Greathough Brook in the Forest of Dean.

These management plans will inform the re-design of the Forest of Dean and include opportunities for mire restoration, naturalisation of stream systems, use of ‘slow the flow’ practices and other innovative approaches to landscape scale water management.

Collectively these measures will help to address issues of both flood risk, and low flows, whilst working towards meeting water framework directive targets around biodiversity, fisheries and chemistry. This post will also be involved in community engagement and the recruitment and training of volunteers to implement the agreed measures, including initial support for the Beaver reintroduction to a fenced enclosure on the Greathough Brook.

This post will involve working in partnership with local and regional stakeholders as well as securing additional financial and in-kind support.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proven experience of project management and co-ordination; including budget management and use of monitoring systems
• Experience of securing funding greater than £30,000
• Have water related habitat and species management experience
• Have water related survey and monitoring experience
• Excellent communication, networking and team working skills
• Experience of partnership working with statutory and voluntary organisations
• Practical experience of working to address water framework directive and flooding issues
• Practical experience of managing and training volunteers
• Be a proficient user of GIS software and Microsoft Office packages
