Strategic Development Officer

The Strategic Development Officer is an individual contributor role, responsible for building strategic fundraising partnerships. Partnerships will include multi-national corporations, foundations, individuals, and key multilateral development organizations. This professional position requires collaboration and strong working relationships across all departments at This position reports to the Director, Strategic Alliances.

Key responsibilities
Strategic Relationship Management 

  • Establish new, high-impact, fundraising partnerships
  • Steward a pipeline of existing donors to maintain strong donor relationships that deepen and grow over time
  • Strategically collaborate to meet individual, department and organizational fundraising goals, targeting gifts in the $250,000 to $1M+ range
  • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to pursue partnerships that support the expansion of’s programs and operations worldwide 
  • Establish and display a thorough understanding of’s scaling strategy, footprint, structure and unique selling points across its markets 
  • Assess and track donor behavior on an ongoing basis, prioritizing outreach and communication to each donor accordingly 
  • Develop timely revenue projections and provide complete, accurate internal reporting on donor outreach and activities 
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including management and program staff within, to develop comprehensive partnerships that drive revenue growth and advance’s global scaling strategy

Donor Reporting

  • Collaborate with the Grants Management team to develop and review written proposals and progress reports for complex partnerships, connecting donor interests to’s in-country programs
  • Collaborate with’s marketing and communications team to develop tailored strategies for funders that lead to awareness, understanding and appreciation of’s efforts worldwide

Management Responsibility

  • Individual contributor with no subordinates

Scope data

  • Responsible for fundraising partnerships averaging from $250,000 to $1M+ 
  • Multiple, complex and multifaceted internal and external interfaces required
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in complex sales relationships, business development and/or fundraising 
  • Strong understanding of the international development required
  • Experience within the microfinance space and/or with Corporate Social Responsibility is given additional consideration
  • Additional consideration given for knowledge of the water and sanitation sector and/or business development experience in India

Travel requirement
Must be willing to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally; travel may be higher if based outside of Kansas City, MO
