Post Doctoral Researcher (Hydrological Modeling & Water Resources Management)

Preferred Education

Ph.D. in hydrology, civil engineering, or agricultural engineering or related academic field emphasizing water resources research and natural resource management, especially water management, surface and subsurface hydrology or environmental science. Academic preparation through formal course work and earned credits, and/or professional experience consistent with the subject areas of instruction and research stated above.

Preferred Experience Requirements

1-3 years of research experience in numerical modeling, data processing and management; and/or conduction of field experiments in natural resources and environmental sciences.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

The applicant should have experience in: the use of laboratory analytical Techniques, field research design and implementations at different scales, Spatial and temporal data analyses, and computer programing (e.g., high level computer program languages i.e. Java, C++, Python or related languages, SAS statistical software, MS-Access databases packages). The candidate should have the capacity and desire to work cooperatively in multidisciplinary teams, and capability to publish research findings in high impact factor peer-reviewed journals. The applicant should have strong numerical modeling experience including the use of different models in water resources and environmental sciences. The applicant should have experience in collecting and analyzing spatial data using different techniques (e.g., unmanned aerial vehicle, electromagnetic-induction meter) in water resources and environmental sciences. The applicant should have excellent scientific writing and communication skills. The applicant should have skills and familiarity in deploying and managing field instrumentation, e.g., soil moisture sensors, groundwater monitoring wells, data-loggers and sensor networks. The applicant should be able to
work with, and train undergraduate and graduate students on using different laboratory and field equipment and software.

Posting Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the principal investigator in ongoing projects and research areas related to spatial data modeling in water resources and environmental sciences. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, evaluating and predicting extreme hydrological events (i.e. floods and droughts); impacting of land use/cover changes on hydrologic processes, carbon cycle and soil erosion; evaluating decision support systems for agricultural and landscape settings; conducting irrigation and nitrogen best management practices for sustainable use of natural resources and environmental protection in a changing climate; conducting water resources and environmental science field and laboratory experiments; assisting in writing research findings for scientific reports and peer-reviewed journal articles.
