Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to develop water resource numerical models, tools that inform management strategies, policies for the Interstate Stream Commission (ISC) in general and, more specifically, in the Rio Grande basin. Incumbent will develop strategies for managing New Mexico’s deliveries in compliance with the Rio Grande compact and other interstate compacts. Position will coordinate, oversee, and manage water resource projects with multiple parties to address State of New Mexico issues; manage contracts and contractor efforts; and develop, refine, and use various tools to conduct hydrologic and water rights investigations. Incumbent will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of selected agency strategic activities; evaluate water operations plans including development of biological assessments, opinions aid regional and state water planning efforts; and provide organizational input into establishing the agency IT plan by serving on the State Engineer’s IT Governance Committee. This position serves as the agency technical expert in water resources litigation and represents the State of New Mexico on committees and in meetings with the public and other governmental agencies concerning Rio Grande and other Basin’s water resources management issues. This position is a Pay Band EG.

- Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and eight (8) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.

Work is performed mostly in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer, computer equipment and phone usage. Frequent travel is required for meetings, and occasional field work with exposure to inclement weather, and rough terrain. May be required to work at alternate work sites. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License in order to drive a state vehicle. This position is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico but may be allowed to work in Albuquerque, New Mexico, depending on operational need.
