Multiple specialist environmental roles within RIMU

We are looking for Environmental Specialists across a range of disciplines to help deliver the core environmental monitoring programmes in Auckland Council’s Research and Evaluation Unit (RIMU). The RIMU Environment team is responsible for monitoring and reporting on Auckland’s environment. We collect process, analyse and evaluate a wide range of environmental data across the marine, freshwater, land and air domains to provide high-quality evidence and information to decision makers and Aucklanders to assist with policy development, strategy implementation and programme evaluation.
We are looking for new team members in the following areas:
- Hydrology – experience, skills and knowledge in designing, managing and monitoring a hydrological network and associated equipment. Knowledge of using time series data management
- Freshwater – experience or qualifications in the freshwater science field (chemistry and/or ecology) processing and evaluating data, managing technical projects and undertaking report writing
- Environmental Specialists – experience, skills and knowledge in environmental monitoring. An understanding of the principles of environmental data collection and processing methods is preferred
Key requirements of all the roles include providing high-quality monitoring information, advice and assistance to both internal and external customers and supporting continuous improvement of our processes under our ISO 9001:2015 quality assurance system. In addition to having excellent written and verbal communication skills, you’ll also enjoy working as a team and coming up with innovative solutions to deploy environmental monitoring equipment and to manage complex databases. Having a passion for the outdoors and upholding an excellent health and safety attitude is critical.
Relevant experience and ideally a post-graduate degree or equivalent qualification in environmental science is required. An understanding of New Zealand’s regulatory framework and local government processes would be desirable as would any experience with policy effectiveness monitoring and evaluation.
A current NZ driving licence is essential.
This is a safety sensitive position and will require pre-employment drug testing.
