Post-doctoral Scientist

University of Delaware

Newark, DE, United States 🇺🇸

A post-doctoral position is available at the University of Delaware in regional climate modeling (both limited area models and variable resolution global models). This position is initially being recruited for one year with possible extensions.

The successful candidate will work on a DOE-funded project to evaluate global high resolution, variable resolution, and limited area approaches to regional climate simulation to determine how well they represent different aspects of the hydroclimate over the continental United States. This project is unique in that we are working with stakeholders in water resource management to develop a suite of decision-maker-relevant metrics that we will use to evaluate the models. As part of this project, the post-doctoral scientist will aid in the development of these metrics. The ideal candidate will also carry out simulations using CESM (and potentially WRF) with quasi-uniform and variable meshes. The candidate will author technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles and present their results at scientific meetings.

This project is in collaboration with numerous national labs and universities, including Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Pacific Northwest National Lab, UC-Davis, UCLA, and Penn State. We expect the successful candidate to work collaboratively in a large multidisciplinary research team.

The candidate should satisfy the following requirements:

• Ph.D. in meteorology/atmospheric science, geography, or a closely related field;

• Knowledge of CESM, WRF, and/or RegCM (CESM preferred);

• Proficiency with one or more programming languages (especially Fortran);

• Familiarity with Unix/Linux and high performance computing environments; and

• Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive analyses making use of different subsets of simulations, evaluation datasets, and advanced analysis techniques.

Applicants should submit a CV, a statement of research interests, and contact information for three references to Dr. Sara Rauscher ([email protected]).
