Science Integrator

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for a Science Integrator. The successful candidate will work with an established and dynamic team at the Integration and Application Network (IAN). IAN’s mission is to accomplish positive environmental change through scientific synthesis, engagement, and communication. Effective science communication is fundamental to all aspects of IAN’s work. This position will be located in Cambridge or Annapolis, Maryland, based on the needs of the team. 

Science Integrators manage projects, analyze data, and synthesize and interpret results for multidisciplinary projects. Science Integrators initiate, plan, and facilitate meetings with partners and stakeholders, and communicate the findings of project results through written and oral means to multiple audiences, including peer review publication. Science Integrators write grant applications and proposals, and are expected to identify and negotiate projects and manage those projects from inception to completion. Other activities include participation in IAN-led classes and trainings, directing junior and senior staff in the development of tasks and activities, and completing project administrative reporting and administrative functions. Periodic domestic and international travel to project meetings and conferences is expected.

Skills and attributes
The Science Integrator is expected to work with diverse partners, government agencies, and non-government organizations to organize, coordinate, and complete projects, which may be located locally, regionally, or globally. Excellent communication skills are required as is the ability to lead teams, be self-directing, and learn and use new software. Knowledge of ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or statistical software programs preferred. Grant writing, project management, and workshop facilitation experience is also desirable.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in a relevant environmental field and two years of experience or a Masters Degree with five or more years of experience. The successful candidate is entitled to University benefits and salary is commensurate with experience.
