The IGCS is a research cooperation centre between the German group of universities (TU 9 and Christian-Albrechts University (CAU) Kiel) and IIT Madras in Chennai, India. RWTH Aachen University coordinates the Centre on the German side. IGCS invites applications for a lectureship in the area of water management. The IGCS is concerned with sustainability, with a focus on water resources management, waste management, land use and energy. The Centre receives funding from the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Candidates have a doctoral degree in engineering or natural sciences or a field of study with relevance to sustainability and must be willing to pursue interdisciplinary research in this field. They are expected to participate in networking and coordination activities of the Centre, have experience in teaching and research in higher education. Moreover they have a sound knowledge of German higher education institutions and of new developments in the higher education; very good English skills; intercultural communication skills, administrative and organisational experience as well as experience in higher education management. International experience and knowledge of the region are appreciated. Successful applicants must be EU citizens with an affiliation to a German Higher Education Institution or research institute.
Responsibilities include taking an active part in interdisciplinary research projects and coordination of the IGCS; teaching in engineering and natural sciences, esp. on postgraduate programmes and with a focus on sustainability in the field of energy, developing and conducting energy-related research projects – including the establishment of research groups – in collaboration with researchers and lecturers of IIT Madras and participating German universities; preparing scientific publications; developing examinations procedures and conducting exams; supervising thesis and dissertation projects; contributing to the development of interdisciplinary master’s and dual degree programmes, curriculum development and the design of teaching materials for new classes and modules in the area of sustainability; preparing and delivering seminars and workshops; attending boards and committees.
What We Offer
Successful candidates will be members of faculty at IIT Madras and remunerated according to the salary scale for IIT Madras academic staff. The appointment will be at the Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor level, depending on the candidate´s experience in academia and, if applicable, in industry. In addition to their salary, appointees will receive a compensatory allowance from RWTH Aachen University funded by DAAD. The post is available immediately for a fixed-term period until 31 December 2016 with permanent residency in India. Applications for short term professorships are always welcome. The prolongation of the appointment beyond 2017 is subject to approval of the financial grant.
