Extreme poverty cannot be eradicated without universal access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, yet today 663 million people still live without access to safe water and 2.4 billion people lack an adequate toilet. It is unacceptable that more than 315,000 children under five still die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and sanitation.
From its origins in the UK water industry over 35 years ago, WaterAid has become a leading global actor in tackling this critical issue. Working alongside communities and partner organisations across the world – from governments, civil society and the UN to academia and the private sector – everything we do is about getting safe water, sanitation and hygiene to everyone everywhere.
As part of a growing global federation, WaterAid UK has flourished and grown in its coverage, income and influence, with over 720,000 supporters in the UK and £85.5 million raised in 2015/16. Ranked number 6 in the ‘Sunday Times Top 100 not for profit organisations to work for’ in 2016, we pride ourselves on our highly engaged workforce and strong and diverse Board of Trustees.
As some of our highly committed Trustees reach the end of their terms, we are now seeking new Trustees to join our UK Board. We are particularly seeking people who bring political economy experience of the countries that WaterAid works in; professional experience of water, sanitation and hygiene provision in developing country contexts; financial management skills and marketing and communications skills. Our aim is to maintain a diverse and balanced Board. Trustees work on a pro bono basis, and are asked to give around 10-15 days a year to WaterAid, including attendance at Board meetings in London.
If you share our vision and values, and have the governance skills and relevant knowledge needed to help us carry out our mission, we would welcome your application. For further information please see our Trustee appointment information pack.
