We are looking for a full-time Senior Communications Manager based in our communications team in CDP’s London headquarters, reporting to the Communications Director.

This is a unique opportunity to make your mark in a dynamic business-facing organization. Focusing on our cutting-edge work on corporate and city climate action worldwide, you will play an integral role within our global communications team, which is responsible for CDP’s external communications. You will manage a team of communications experts working across our different programmes. You will transform CDPs approach to communicating ts work with subnational governments and will also manage the small cross-partner communications team for one of our key projects – the Science Based Targets initiative. We are looking for a results-oriented self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a wider global team.

Science Based Targets initiative
CDP is one of the founding partners of the Science Based Targets initiative, which was established in 2015, ahead of the signing of the Paris Agreement, a moment that signalled an acceleration in the transition to a low-carbon economy. It is an exciting collaboration between CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and is receiving a lot of attention from companies and investors alike. Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the implementation of an integrated multi-channel communications strategy across target regions globally
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of communications strategies and plans for particular programs of activity, specifically our Cities program with its ambitious new aims and the cross-partner Science Based Targets initiative
  • Maximise media coverage of CDP and the Science Based Targets initiative through compelling news stories and thought leadership and through nurturing relationships with key journalists and titles; supporting global communications colleagues in delivering media results in key markets (e.g. Europe, North America)
  • Develop and edit content for media articles, blogs, social media and marketing collateral in collaboration with the CDP Content Manager and wider Science Based Targets initiative communications team
  • Roll out creative ideas for new data insights and stories through infographics, videos, and short analysis pieces;
  • Lead and manage the CDP team of Communications Managers and Execs
  • Manage the global Science Based Targets communications team and coordinate closely with the corporate engagement team managers, technical team members and steering committee for the initiative.
  • Work with companies on communications plans for announcing the approval of new science-based targets
  • Co-develop and implement an events strategy for the Science Based Targets initiative in collaboration with the corporate engagement team, including inviting and briefing speakers and event promotion.
  • Build relationships and manage global coordination with CDP communications colleagues in regional offices, Science Based Targets initiative partners and key partners and funders as required
  • Champion the brand and strategic marketing positioning of CDP and the Science Based Targets initiative to key stakeholders.
  • Research, brief and commission external consultants/agencies as required
  • Liaise with program teams and initiative colleagues to advise on external communications and marketing activities
  • Ensure CDP’s and Science Based Targets initiative external communications meets the needs of our target audiences as well as our programs objectives.

Required skills and experience:

  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in communications, PR or journalism;
  • Strong analytical mind with the ability to turn complex, data heavy information into compelling stories and content;
  • Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating multi-channel communications strategies;
  • Extensive experience in promoting content on a wide range of digital and traditional platforms;
  • Strong copy-writing and editing skills;
  • Solid and demonstrable experience and interest in social media;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of international media, including business, trade and environment media;
  • Lots of creative ideas for impactful communications in a complex and competitive global media landscape;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and nurture relationships – including with senior individuals – including with senior individuals within organisations – both internally and externally;
  • An understanding of and desire to work proactively to promote climate action among cities, states, regions and businesses;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
  • Experience of line management

  • Experience of working within coalitions
  • Experience of working on corporate social responsibility or sustainability
  • Fluency in languages other than English

The role is based in CDP’s offices in London. The successful candidate will work 5 days per week with occasional evening work. You will be offered a 2-year fixed term contract, with the possibility to extend it based on funding.

You must be legally able to work in the UK.

Benefits: £40,000 – £43,000 per annum, flexible working, annual collective performance bonus scheme, initial 24 days holiday rising to 30 days over time, pension provision up to 8% of salary after 3 months employment, central London location.
