NIWA is New Zealand’s leading natural resources and environmental science services provider, specialising in atmospheric, freshwater and marine research.
We are seeking an experienced Hydrological Scientist to provide leadership and contribute to research and consulting projects in hydrological modelling, flow estimation and forecasting, and decision-support for water resources management. Specific project topics may range from catchment-scale surface water-groundwater models, to regional water allocation planning, to national flow and flood forecasting tools. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects with a wide range of scientists and stakeholders from NIWA, national and regional government and the private sector.
We are seeking a positive team player who is enthusiastic about leading and contributing to hydrological science for the benefit of New Zealand, and has a proactive, problem-solving attitude. The successful candidate will have a PhD in hydrology, excellent technical skills, more than 5 years experience in the hydrological sciences field, and preferably a working knowledge of hydrological tools used in New Zealand (e.g., TopNet), and of water management practices and policies in New Zealand.
