So what does a Civil Associate at Michael Baker International do?
This Civil Associate will be part of our water/wastewater team located in Virginia Beach, VA. You will be responsible for executing engineering, design, and construction administration tasks under the direct supervision of Professional Engineers for related water and wastewater projects.
Can you walk me through a typical day of a Civil Associate?
The majority of your day would be spent providing engineering and design technical detail and computational activities with project teams on projects, utilizing technical software tools (e.g., AutoCADD, MicroStation, hydraulic models, Microsoft Office software, etc.). Occasionally, you may be expected to visit project sites to obtain information or observe field related activities, whether for project designs or for construction administration. You will:
Work, communicate and coordinate with other staff to provide design and technical support on projects or tasks.
Execute and review self-performed tasks and computations to ensure high quality products (plans, specifications, reports, etc.).
Work and communicate with other staff, clients, sub-consultants and industry suppliers as directed by supervisory staff
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with peers and clients (both internal and external).

Motivated self-starter who displays a passion for solving problems, interacting in a team environment, and meeting established deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineer-in-Training Certification with 1-3 years of related experience in water/wastewater engineering.
Experience or high level interest in water and wastewater infrastructure or system design experience
Desires opportunity to advance in a consulting firm environment.
- Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to success in this role.
- Computer Skills in Microsoft Office, AutoCADD and MicroStation.
