Global Environment & Technology Foundation (GETF) is a leading not-for-profit organization based in the Washington, D.C. area that works with all sectors in society to create the infrastructure necessary to achieve sustainable development. GETF specializes in providing strategic guidance on environmental issues to government and business clients and developing and facilitating successful public-private partnerships for sustainability. GETF’s current clients include Fortune 500 companies, the U.S. Government, foundations and non-government organizations.

GETF seeks an enthusiastic, proactive, self-motivated, team-oriented Communications Manager to primarily lead the foundation’s communications around its clean water programs, including a $200 million global public-private partnership on water. The focus of these partnerships is primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. The goals of these programs include improving access to water supply and sanitation, protecting watersheds and promoting the productive use of water. The candidate must work well in a group, have the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work effectively and calmly under the pressure of deadlines.

Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Overseeing communications activities across GETF’s portfolio, including maintaining relationships with external agencies and professionals
  • Creating communications campaigns
  • Developing communications content such as blog posts, articles, impact stories, press releases, logos, infographics and videos
  • Innovating opportunities to engage diverse audiences
  • Leading social media campaigns across diverse platforms
  • Coordinating with Project Managers to collect and synthesize communications
  • Preparing and formatting PowerPoint presentations and slides
  • Coordinating events and stakeholder visits to projects abroad
  • Developing and tracking newsletters and other general communications
  • Maintaining and updating websites for GETF programs
  • Conducting research and drafting findings
  • Cataloging photographs
  • Organizing contact lists

Skills and Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of related work experience
  • Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills
  • Experience in graphic design, especially working with Adobe InDesign
  • Self-sufficient problem solver with a positive attitude
  • Ability to articulate/visualize concepts succinctly
  • Ability to prepare concepts from written or verbal creative briefs
  • Understanding of website structure and functionality being able to design the front end to pass off to developers
  • Ability to work on large, high profile projects but at the same time be willing to work on small, quick jobs
  • Regular user of diverse social media
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and management abilities
  • BA or BFA in Design, Communications, Journalism, English, Advertising, or related field
  • Background in communications, graphic design, journalism, international development, environmental policy, water resources and sustainability issues preferred
  • Understanding of and experience in corporate branding, layout, color theory and typography in both print and digital media
  • Program experience with Macintosh, intermediate to advanced level operating specialized software programs, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with analytics for digital communication (e.g. Google Analytics, etc.)
