Do you have an interest in making infrastructure a key priority at the federal level? The American Society of Civil Engineers is currently recruiting for a Senior Manager, Federal Government Relations to represent ASCE on all legislative and regulatory matters pertaining to energy, water, environmental and water resources issues. This includes direct contact with members of Congress, their staff, officials of federal agencies, members and staff of allied organizations and other members of the Washington policy community. The Senior Manager will work with coalitions on specific infrastructure issues and also provide technical analysis and write reports to support the association’s government relations and advocacy activities, especially those relating to the ASCE Infrastructure Report Card . We are looking for a detail-oriented, politically savvy person to join our team of professionals who are increasing awareness concerning our aging infrastructure and what it means for our nation’s economic growth.
Responsibilities include: Maintains liaison with Congressional offices and entities on energy, water, environmental and water resources issues. Prepares documents submitted to Congress and federal agencies, including testimony, letters, talking points, and regulatory comments. Insures the effective operation of ASCE’s policy development process and programs; including relevant national policy committees, and relevant policy documents and publications.
- Serves as Staff Contact to ASCE’s Energy, Environment and Water Policy Committee. Provides staff support to ASCE’s Public Policy Committee. Monitors Congressional actions and forecasts emerging issues. Manages and coordinates ASCE’s participation in related coalitions. Drafts content for newsletter, blogs and website on relevant legislative activity and policies.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5-7 years of related policy or legislative experience
- Demonstrated success supporting multiple managers and deadlines
- Experience in a congressional, lobbying, association, or professional society a plus
