World Resources Institute India (WRII) – a wholly owned subsidiary of WRI established in India, seeks Associate in its Mumbai/Delhi office to expand its GHG Protocol initiative to include multi-impacts that cover air pollution, short lived pollutants, criteria pollutants etc. Primarily the work would revolve around engaging with the private sector to both measure and manage these additional impacts using standardized tools, guidances etc. and support development/recommendation of mechanisms and instruments to scale-up voluntary business action

Reporting to the Head – Business Engagement at WRI India, the Associate shall be responsible for supporting development of research, tools & analysis, policy recommendations and institutional capacity building that help build a roadmap for India to improve air quality management and achieving real reductions in emissions.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities would include;

Project/Program Management
• Support the implementation activities towards establishing a comprehensive emissions roadmap that covers both greenhouse gases as well as local air pollution, criteria pollutants, short lived pollutants etc. These would broadly include
o Characterizing the State and Trends of India’s Air Quality and Challenges
o Identification and Evaluation of Approaches/Instruments
o Support development of an overall emissions roadmap that includes guidance on policy framework, portfolio of measures and best practices, review of instruments and mechanisms that have worked well internationally,
• Support day to day coordination with WRI India partners, corporate engagements, policy engagements, etc.
• Lead the organization of relevant meetings, interactions and other key stakeholder dialogues.

Technical Responsibilities
• Collate the experience gained from the GHG Protocol’s multi-stakeholder standard development process and explore possibilities of expanding the set-up to a Multi-impact tool.
o This would essentially start with assessments of existing water measurement/ mapping/allocation/accounting tools etc.
o Explore current gaps in usage, implementation and development process
o Researching technical and methodological aspects for multi-impact accounting tool starting with water
o Linkages with the GHG Protocol scope based boundary setting and accounting framework
Knowledge Management
• Lead specific research and analysis highlighting the overlaps between financial and environmental performances of companies in India. This would aim to highlight the business case for doing inventories and managing GHG emissions
• Work with key practitioners and experts across member companies to highlight best practices, exemplary actions and key initiatives undertaken by corporates in India
• Develop specific comparative benchmarks, evaluation criteria and performance recognition parameters to acknowledge specific actions
• Work along the WRI Climate & Energy teams, Business Centre, Finance experts to develop key understandings between corporate sector, climate finance and overall support to India’s national goals.

Multi-Stakeholder Engagement
• Closely engage with the private sector on an ongoing basis;
o To collate practical experiences/challenges
o Facilitate participation onto the tool development/customization process
o Lead road-testing and experience collation/case study development process.
• Work across time-zones closely engaging with colleagues across China, Brazil and United States in the development process.
• Facilitate partner and stakeholder communications


• Graduate Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related field (Master’s degree preferred)


• Minimum three years overall work-experience, across environmental and climate domain.
• Demonstrated experience of participating/leading design and implementation multi-stakeholder tools, guidance development process
• Demonstrated experience in developing tools.
• Hands-on experience/engagement with the private sector along a host of sustainability and environmental issues
• Exemplary written and oral skills including technical writing, visualization, editing, summarization and synthesis of varied stakeholder comments
• Familiarity with the Greenhouse Gas Accounting Standards including the GHG Protocol, CDP, ISO 14064 / ISO 14046 certification processes etc. (Demonstrated experience of participating/leading into these initiatives preferred)
