The Environmental Impact Analyst provides technical and scientific support for water management, conservation initiatives and their impact, for the Freshwater Program in Mexico and Northern Central America (MNCA).
The Environmental Impact Analyst collects, manages, analyzes, and interprets data for water security in MNCA; participates in freshwater conservation planning and stewardship at various levels; conducts scientific surveys, writes reports; research and records, manages, analyzes, and interprets data to support science-based decision making; provides methodologies to evaluate the environmental impact of the Freshwater Program projects; and develops water footprint assessments, as well as innovative methods for sustainable water management and evaluation.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Performs/coordinates fieldwork including environmental assessment and field monitoring.
- Delivers tools to measure water management, at local and regional scales.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
Graduate Degree in environmental sciences related and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
Experience preparing reports of findings.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in Environmental Science and/or Engineering
Background in water accounting and environmental impact assessment across the product’s life cycle
Attention to detail.
Solid management of SimaPro model to find environmental hotspots
Knowledge of resilience and sustainable limits of ecosystems and natural sources of water to provide ecosystem goods and services
Experience in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool for the systematic evaluation of environmental aspects of a product or service system, linked to water use, through all stages of its life cycle.
Diagnoses complex problems and identifies creative solutions
Performs tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of public water policies in Mexico.
Demonstrated experience collaborating with other parties to obtain different data sources.
Genuinely excited and enthusiastic about learning and pushing technical limits / finding new solutions
Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in Spanish and English.
Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant related disciplines with natural conservation and environmental services.
