Description

A post-doctoral scholar position is available to work on morphological changes in Mississippi River crevasse splay deltas and the general mechanics of fine sediment capture on river deltas and floodplains. The work will be conducted at the River-Coastal Science and Engineering Department at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, and include both laboratory and field studies. This position involves travel to the Mississippi Delta and partner institutions. Applicants with a doctoral degree in civil engineering or geoscience and expertise in the conduction of field work and laboratory experiments are encouraged to apply.

The earliest start date is October 3rd, 2025, but this is flexible. The position is funded for one year (contingent upon annual review at year 1) with the possibility of further extension. The starting salary is $65,000 per year + full benefits.

Qualifications

Required:

PhD in one of these fields: Civil Engineering, Geosciences, or Geology.

Preferred:

Experience with setting up and conducting physical laboratory experiments working in both a water resources laboratory and in the field. Expertise with sediment transport and the cultivation of vegetation for laboratory experiments is highly valued as well.
