The Post

University of Stirling (UoS) hosts the Hydro Nation Chair Research and Innovation Programme (HNC), which is funded by Scottish Water in partnership with the Scottish Funding Council. This exciting programme has been designed to provide leadership, and forge the collaborative relationships required to deliver the solutions for sustainable water management in Scotland.

Working closely with the HNC and Scottish Water Research and Innovation team, the Programme coordinator will be part of the Operational management Group and support the project activities.

The Programme Coordinator reports to the HNC Programme Manager and will support the programme coordination and administration to facilitate the successful delivery of the £3.5Million programme, with the responsibility for providing efficient delivery of the Hydro Nation Chair Programme.

This role will be based on campus with opportunities for agile working. On occasion you may be required to attend events, Scottish Water sites or other community events.

Description of Duties

This is an exciting role, operating as part of a multi-institutional team that spans across four Scottish HE institutions and works closely with Public Sector Body Scottish Water. As such this role presents a unique and challenging career opportunity, working with both industry and academia. The successful applicant will develop a wide range of administrative and project coordination skills that can be applied across industry and academia.

Coordination and Administrative

  • Provide programme administrative support to the Programme Manager, including monitoringprogress to plans, and providing and coordinating of relevant information for key reports, papers, and presentations to help ensure key deadlines are met
  • Ensure that all data is captured in a timely and accurate manner and available in the appropriate governance structures
  • Coordinate and have responsibility for documentation and maintenance of any programme funds, including sub projects funded by the HNC Catalyst Fund
  • Undertake analysis of funding, terms and conditions, and deadlines and provide regular updates to the Programme Manager to support the long term sustainability of the HNC Programme
  • Lead the organisation and coordination of meetings and provide secretariate support to the meetings by preparing draft agendas, collating, or drafting supporting papers, preparing minutes and capturing/ monitoring actions.
  • Review current processes and practices, and where required develop and introduce appropriate new processes and practices. Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on current processes and train colleagues as required
  • Provide support for Scotland Hydro Nation Chair activities, including diary management, and coordinating meetings

Communication

  • Contribute to the content for all social media and website posts to ensure Hydro Nation has positive and up-to-date online content. Provide source material for online posts as required
  • Communicate regularly with all projects providing key dates and information to the project as required
  • Manage the project / programme library of key documents, following information management best practice

Relationships

  • Build positive working relationships with all projects internally and externally as well as with key teams across the university
  • Support the Programme Manager, Hydro Nation Chair and wider team with key work activities, prioritising your workload to ensure urgent issues are dealt with in a timely fashion

The role holder will undertake such other duties as may be required, commensurate with the grade and nature of the role

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent (where no formal qualifications are held,
    additional relevant experience is required)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and a methodical approach
  • High standard of literacy with the ability to draft correspondence: Accuracy and an eye for detail
  • Ability to manage and monitor a variety of tasks at the same time, work pro-actively and to organise and prioritise their own work and that of others
  • Ability to work flexibly on several activities simultaneously
  • Resilient with the ability to work under pressures and tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy
  • Experience of working in a customer focussed administrative environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent skills in office IT systems including the full use of the Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working in a research-led and/or business-focused environment within higher education
  • Ability to analyse data and provide reports
  • Experience of social media channels and content creation
  • Marketing, comms, events experience
  • Aptitude to learn the use of management systems for tracking workflow and follow up actions

Part time (80%FTE)
Fixed term until 31 March 2027

Grade 6: £30,805 – £37,174 p.a. pro-rata

Faculty of Natural Sciences

The Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS) encompasses the Divisions of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Computing Science and Mathematics, Psychology and the Institute of Aquaculture. Biological and Environmental Sciences (BES)

Our research interests are broad, ranging from conservation and evolutionary ecology to environmental processes including carbon and nutrient cycling, aquatic and catchment sciences, landscape and forest ecology, evolutionary biology, environment and human health, energy and environmental sustainability. Research activities are led by principal investigators who seek to understand the fundamental processes driving the evolution and maintenance of the natural environment and its interactions with human populations. We develop and exploit a range of technologies from Earth observation through to molecular techniques to understand how environments function and ecosystems are impacted from local to global scales and over annual to millennial timescales. Our research and impacts are found in all continents of the world and position us as a leading institution in Environmental Protection and Biological Conservation.
