Salary: Lecturer £35,845 – £49,553 per annum
Senior Lecturer £51,034 – £59,135 per annum

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest Engineering Schools in the UK. You will have an emerging (for Lecturer) or strong (for Senior Lecturer) track record in research and a desire to support and inspire the next generation of Newcastle University graduates.
Based within the Environmental Engineering Group you will be part of a vibrant team of environmental engineers and scientists. - Initiate and implement a programme of research of an international standard in collaboration with, or in an area within the Discipline of Environmental Engineering
- Communicate, publish and promote research outputs and impact
- Identify and obtain funding from appropriate sources to support the programme of research
- Contribute to the delivery of core modules, across any stage, within the Civil and Environmental Engineering programmes, using appropriate instruction methods and other pedagogic work, and to mark and assess students’ work
- Supervise students’ projects and dissertations and supervise students and staff engaged on higher degree work by research
- Undertake curriculum development work, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials, and supervise course provision
- Participate in the administrative and management processes of the School
- Carry out appropriate impact and engagement activities with academic, educational, learned/professional and industry partners and the general public, for the benefit of the University and the discipline
- Represent the discipline on School, Faculty or University committees/groups
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- In-depth subject knowledge/expertise in a relevant area
- Research track record, including publications in high quality and internationally recognised research journals
- Evidence of presentation of work to the national and international research community (e.g. conferences, seminars and similar high profile events)
- Effective time management and prioritisation skills to balance the potentially conflicting demands of teaching, research and administration; and the ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent skills in communication, both orally and in written forms, including the ability to create, organise and present teaching and learning materials effectively for both large group and small group teaching
- Teaching, lecturing or assessment experience at undergraduate or postgraduate level, which may include laboratory sessions
- Experience of successful leadership of funded research and taught programme components (Desirable) (Essential for Senior Lecturer)
- Experience of recruiting, supervising and motivating different types of students (Desirable)
- Evidence of introducing new insights to the content, delivery, or assessment of educational programmes (Desirable)
- Evidence of effective management of individual or team projects, and successful task completion (Desirable)
- Excellent collaborative, interpersonal and team working skills, resolving tensions/difficulties if they arise, and engaging/signposting pastoral care as appropriate (Desirable)
