We propose an attractive position of Policy Officer for water and environmental economics to join our friendly team of around 20 people.
The jobholder will contribute to the development of EU water policy by working on various aspects of water management, linking to investments, sustainable financing, pricing and costs recovery. These are strategic, exciting and politically sensitive policy areas that are central to the effective implementation of the EU water law and of the new policy agenda on water resilience. He/She will also serve as country desk to monitor the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the Floods Directive in certain Member States; Participate in the work of the Common Implementation Strategy (the cooperation structure on water with stakeholders and Member States), in particular as regards the Working Group on Economics. Contribute to the integration of water in other policy areas particular as regards public and private investment.
We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, curious and resourceful contract agent who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team and has the capacity to contribute to water-related policy and economic issues.
The candidate should have:
Academic training and professional experience on Economics with excellent knowledge of environmental economics.
Specific knowledge of water economics will be an asset
Good knowledge of water investments and sustainable financing

– Very good analytical skills with an eye for detail that would allow him/her to grasp complex technical and legal issues.
– Very good organizational skills and a resilience to work under pressure, with political exposure.
– Strong teamwork skills, in order to establish close and effective working relationships with the other colleagues of the team and of the Unit
– Good negotiation skills, with a developed political sense.
– Very good oral and written communication skills, in order to communicate efficiently with internal and external stakeholders and represent the European Commission in meetings and conferences.
