The Restoration and Outreach Coordinator for the Nashwaak Watershed Association Inc. (NWAI) will be responsible for our riparian restoration projects within the watershed. The selected candidate will coordinate the Landowner Conservation Program, including report-writing and budgets. S/he will lead the floodplain and riparian restoration projects as outlined in the NWAI 2021-2030 Strategic Plan. The position will include time spent in the field – assisting with culvert assessments, field trips, restoration projects, tree and shrub planting, and water quality monitoring.

S/he will co-lead education programming for children and youth in both the public school and summer camp setting with grades 3 and 4 as the primary focus. S/he will assist in representing the organization at external events, and be active in the planning, development and implementation of NWAI sponsored workshops. The coordinator will represent the association at special events in rural communities in our watershed.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Physical restoration work (tree and shrub planting, rain garden installation, dam/debris removal)
  • Plan, develop and deliver of public outreach and education programs 
  • Field work in various weather conditions (rain, heat, cold) and terrain (forest, wetland, streams)
  • Fish habitat and watercourse connectivity assessment
  • Scientific data entry on field sheets and computer
  • Water quality monitoring using various environmental parameters (pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, etc.)
  • Maintain & update the website in collaboration with other staff, develop social media content and public presentations as requested
  • Writing and Reporting: develop records to document project activities, set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately gathered and secured, evaluate the outcomes of projects in relation to the objectives established during the planning phase, write reports on the project for funders

Qualifications

Applicant must be a graduate with a degree from a recognized university or college with acceptable specialization in conservation biology, environmental science, education or a related field relevant to the position. Must be highly motivated; be a self-starter; have professionalism and integrity. Experience working with wildlife, water quality, and the general public are considered assets. Applicant must enjoy working outdoors, and demonstrate strong collaborative abilities working as part of a team. The Nashwaak Watershed Association is looking to hire a graduate with a strong work ethic who is eager to gain experience in this field. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Salary range is based on experience and qualifications.
