Jacobs have an excellent opportunity available for a Modern Apprentice/Graduate Apprentice to join their established team based in Glasgow city centre. The role provides the opportunity to work on a varied range of water engineering projects across the region and wider UK, whilst undertaking part time studies working toward a recognised qualification in Civil Engineering.

The successful applicant will work within our Water Catchment Management Team, assisting with the production of concept and detailed designs, calculations, and the preparation of technical specifications. They can expect to work on a range of exciting and innovative projects which cover a variety of aspects involved in water engineering that make a difference to people’s lives and the environment. 

About the role: 

As a Modern Apprentice/Graduate Apprentice in the Water Catchment Management Team, you will be involved in delivering a wide range of water industry projects, for a broad spectrum of high-profile clients across the UK.  These include major infrastructure, flood defence schemes, river engineering projects and dams and reservoir projects. In addition, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience in the various supporting disciplines such as project management, environmental assessment, geomorphology, hydrology and hydraulic modelling. In fulfilling this role, you will begin to develop knowledge and experience of using design standards and guidance, standard software packages and recognised appraisal techniques to deliver a variety of projects to our clients. Your development will be supported by experts in their fields who will provide a broad range of opportunities and learning experience, allowing you to shape your long-term career at Jacobs.

You will contribute to a team of consultants working on a variety of projects. Responsibilities will include assisting with:

  • Collecting, preparing and presenting data, written information and analysis to inform the development of designs;
  • Assisting in site visits to collect inflation to formulate a design or to be present during construction works;
  • The preparation of design drawings and specifications; and
  • The successful delivery of projects working as a member of a team.

Here’s What You’ll Need:


Entry requirements are a minimum of five National 5/standard Grades or three Highers at grade C or above with English, Maths and Science being desirable.  Alternatively, candidates with a completed Modern Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline will also be considered.


  • An interest in Civil Engineering including Water and River Engineering
  • Interest in the Water Environment and Environmental Engineering
  • Confident communications skills both spoken and verbal 
  • Good numeracy skills 
  • Experience of using MS office packages; particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
