Miami Waterkeeper (MWK) is an award-winning non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Biscayne Bay and the surrounding watershed. Launched in 2010, MWK has become a leading advocate for clean water, inspiring a movement of empowered citizens dedicated to achieving swimmable, drinkable, fishable water. Addressing issues on multiple fronts, we use community outreach, scientific research, and civic and legal action to advance our mission. Miami Waterkeeper is seeking a Program Coordinator to join the education and outreach team.  An ideal candidate for this role will have a deep passion for our mission and will be highly-skilled, detail-oriented, independent, exceptionally organized, and self-motivated. This candidate will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work both independently and collaboratively. This position has a lot of room for growth and creativity, but also will be responsible for reaching key deliverables. Must be willing and able to work with youth of all ages, particularly students in grades 5-12.


  • Develop and implement innovative outreach events and activities to increase the visibility of Miami Waterkeeper, engage the membership and community, and provide meaningful volunteer and educational opportunities to advance our mission
  • Lead day-to-day operations of educational programs and events for students and community members (Junior Ambassador, 1,000 Eyes on the Water, and Ransom Boat Patrol program, and other associated environmental education projects) — may include some nights and weekends
  • Serve as organizational lead and point of contact for students, parents, schools, community members, program partners, volunteers, and special events
  • Seek out and coordinates partnerships with community stakeholders to promote and support educational program initiatives
  • Develop curriculum and educational materials as needed to support Miami Waterkeeper’s program objectives
  • Manage program web pages, event landing pages for RSVPs and community groups, and, if needed, Google Classroom materials for Junior Ambassador program


  • Apply established processes and practices and develop new methods to improve the overall team and organizational effectiveness 
  • Assist in managing the outreach binder for community contacts, partnership guidelines, program materials, and attendance sheets
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and public comments as needed
  • Manage program-related CRM (Nationbuilder) database entries 
  • Create written content for blogs, newsletters, website, etc. as requested by Program Director, Marketing Manager, and Executive Director


  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience or equivalent combination
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Google Drive, basic computer operations, and comfort with communicating via phone, email, and Zoom (or equivalent)  
  • A demonstrated passion for and interest in environmental science, marine conservation, and/or clean water issues related to South Florida 
  • An interest in and experience with community outreach, education, leadership, and volunteer organizing
  • Past experience with youth programs and environmental science curriculum development 
  • Excellent organizational skills — organized and detailed, ability to manage multiple projects independently, self starter


  • Experience networking and working with educators and/or school administrations related to youth programs
  • Experience working with environmental community groups and organizations. Work with these groups in Miami-Dade and/or Broward Counties a plus
  • Experience using scientific communication strategies to general audiences
  • Interest in incorporating a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens when communicating and decision making
  • Experience planning and implementing special events or coordinated workshops/conferences
  • Experience in writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Experience building relationships with staff, volunteers, supporters


$40,000 – $45,000
