Note: We are looking to have the successful candidate commence with us in late March 2025 on a full-time, max-term basis until end of February 2026 / early March 2026.

What you’ll do: 

  • Undertake hydraulic modelling projects using suite of hydraulic models, MIKE-Flood (MIKE 11, MIKE 21), HEC-RAS and TUFLOW as per requirement of the projects. This is coupled to the need to perform hydrologic modelling using programs like RORB. 
  • Use best modelling practice, procedures and guidelines in the industry and within WaterNSW to undertake projects/tasks as required under the guidance of team leads 
  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic modelling tools, database and GIS for hydraulic / hydrologic modelling projects in accordance with project requirements and produce associated Technical Reports 
  • Update and maintain the new and existing hydraulic models, modelling tools and products used for wide ranging applications in NSW 
  • Work collaboratively and effectively, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high quality modelling outcomes for assigned projects and tasks 

What we are looking for:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications from an Australian educational institution in Hydraulic, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, Computational Science or an equivalent/comparable overseas qualification 
  • Experience and knowledge in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling utilising commercial software packages (e.g. RORB, DHI MIKE Suite (MIKE11, MIKE21 and MIKE-FLOOD), HEC-RAS and TUFLOW) 
  • Experience and knowledge in GIS utilising commercial software packages (e.g Q-GIS, ArcGIS) 
  • Experience in technical report writing with a demonstrated ability to effectively explain complex scientific and modelling issues to colleagues, internal/external stakeholders, and research/industrial partners 
  • Nice to Have: Coding and programming experience (e.g. in Python, R, MATLAB, C++, FORTAN) and/or project management experience
