Position: Water Specialist
Highly skilled and motivated Water Specialists to join our dynamic Water Security Team. The successful candidates will play a pivotal role in providing expert advisory, consultation, and training services under the Nexus Agency model, which emphasizes the interconnections between water, energy, food, and health sectors. This role requires a deep understanding of water security within the context of disaster and risk management, sustainable development, and the integration of advanced technologies such as AI and ML.
Key Responsibilities:
Advisory Services:
- Provide expert guidance on water security strategies within the water-energy-food-health nexus.
- Develop and implement comprehensive water risk assessments and management plans.
- Advise on the integration of AI and ML technologies to enhance water security and disaster risk reduction.
- Collaborate with multilateral partners to align water security initiatives with global standards and best practices.
Consultation:
- Conduct in-depth consultations with stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, private sector partners, and community groups.
- Facilitate the development of policy frameworks and governance structures that promote sustainable water management.
- Identify and analyze emerging trends and challenges in water security to inform strategic decision-making.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Design and deliver training programs and workshops on water security, disaster risk management, and the nexus approach.
- Develop educational materials and resources to support knowledge transfer and capacity building among stakeholders.
- Mentor and support junior team members and partner organizations in implementing water security initiatives.
Research and Innovation:
- Lead and participate in research projects focused on innovative water security solutions and technologies.
- Utilize AI and ML tools to analyze water-related data and generate actionable insights.
- Promote Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles in all water security activities.
Project Management:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of water security projects, ensuring they meet objectives, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of water security initiatives within broader risk management and sustainable development programs.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Foster strong relationships with international organizations, governmental bodies, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders.
- Represent GCRI at conferences, seminars, and workshops to promote water security initiatives and share best practices.
- Engage in advocacy efforts to advance water security policies and funding opportunities.
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
- Master’s Degree in Water Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field. A Ph.D. is highly desirable.
Professional Certifications:
- Certifications such as Certified Water Professional (CWP), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), GIS Professional Certification (GISP), or Project Management Professional (PMP) are advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in water security, disaster risk management, or related fields.
- Proven track record in advisory, consultation, and training roles within international or large-scale projects.
- Experience working within the water-energy-food-health nexus is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in hydrological modeling tools (e.g., HEC-HMS, SWAT, MIKE SHE).
- Advanced skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Strong data analysis capabilities using software like R, Python, or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with AI and ML applications in water security and risk management.
- Knowledge of water quality monitoring techniques and infrastructure assessment.
Soft Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Leadership and team management skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Effective project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with policy development and understanding of water law and international water treaties.
- Familiarity with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
- Multilingual abilities are a plus, especially in languages relevant to GCRI’s global operations.
