Job description

We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment. As an organisation we strive to reflect the communities we serve and continue to develop diversity throughout our workforce. We welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, or religion.
Our Area relies on clean and plentiful groundwater supplies for abstraction and baseflow to springs and rivers. We need a groundwater resources specialist to join our Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire Groundwater & Contaminated Land team. You will be working in a productive and experienced team, delivering technical advice, regulation and guidance on groundwater matters to internal and external partners.
Abstraction Management Strategy advice, model use and interpretation, water situations reporting, interpretation and presentation of our groundwater level data, groundwater licence renewals, application and consenting work and consultation and advice on regional and nationally important projects. We work closely with internal Integrated Environmental Planning and Land & Water teams, external stakeholders such as Anglian Water, Lead Local Flood Authorities and WRE.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

The team comprises technical specialists and officers who offer expertise across Water Land & Biodiversity, Regulated Industry and Flood and Coastal Risk Management. Our skills include groundwater quality and resources, land contamination, landfill engineering and conventional oil and gas regulation.

Experience/skills required

You’ll be qualified to at least degree level (or equivalent) in a Geoscience related discipline, a member of a professional body (or working towards this). You will have a strong understanding of and experience in groundwater resources. You will be a skilled communicator, experienced in analysing, interpreting and presenting data to a range of audiences. You will be expected to support and develop team members. You will be comfortable communicating risk and successes to Stakeholders, the Area Leadership team and nationally.

Contact and additional information

The role will be based at Ceres House, Lincoln and we have incorporated flexible ways of working into our daily routine. However, the role will require the post holder, from time to time, to travel to other office locations in the Area, and occasionally nationally, for meetings and to undertake occasional site visits. As a result, a full UK driving licence would be an advantage.

Interviews are to be held in the first or second week of February 2025 and will be in person.
For further information relating to this role please contact Shaun Rowson, Groundwater & Contaminated Land Team Leader by email shaun.rowson@environment-agency.gov.uk
