Evironmental Science/ Water Resources Management/ International Development Studies internship opportunity World Waternet 

Period: February to September 2025 (negotiable) 

Hours: 36 hours per week (negotiable) 

Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands 

Compensation: 40% of the Dutch minimum (youth) wage 

Your Assignment 

Accelerated access to sanitation and water availability in the Palestinian Territories:  

Help implement and scale decentralized wastewaster treatment and reuse systems, building on the successful BluElephant pilot programma results.

World Waternet is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic intern to join our Palestine project team. Do you want to gain experience as an intern ‘Closing the water cycle: reuse WasteWater for climate adaptation, develop yourself and also contribute to a water, environment and sustainability in Netherlands and state of Palestine? Internship activities: 

You’ll join the Palestinian Project team, actively contributing to our work in municipalities of North-Hebron and Salfeet in the West Bank. Since 2019, we have collaborated with various Dutch Water Authorities to improve access to water and support climate adaptation.  

Strategic Development 

  • Conduct a needs assessment for decentralized wastewater treatment systems. 
  • Propose policies, strategies, and scalable solutions for water reuse and climate adaptation.

Implementation 

  • Oversee the placement of a BluElephant treatment plant in a selected community. 
  • Facilitate reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation and other beneficial purposes. 

Scaling up 

  • Identify key areas for expansion and funder opportunities. 
  • Develop campaigns to raise awareness and promote sustainable water reuse. 

Wij zijn op zoek naar

Qualifications: 

We’re looking for a motivated 3rd or 4th year student in: 

  • Water Technology, Land and Water Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.  
  • Skills in data analysis (e.g. Excel) 
  • Knowlegde of decentralised treatment plants and water quality 
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.  
  • Based in the Netherlands.

  • A monthly internship allowance of 40% of the minimum (youth) wage for a 36-hour workweek 
  • An internship agreement for the duration of 1 to 6 months 
  • A reimbursement for your travel expenses if you do not have a student public transport card. (OV-studentenkaart)
