Programme Background
In Bangladesh, SNV has over 10 years of experience in the water sector, working in urban areas and in close collaboration with the government agencies in national and local level. Also, SNV has been working with different stakeholders to set up PPPs with clearer rules of engagement and oversight to strengthen performance accountability by adopting a holistic approach to a sustainable urban water cycle.
SNV is developing a planned project initiative for Bangladesh. This initiative seeks innovative approaches to scale up Nature-Based Solutions and green humanitarian assistance initiatives in high-risk regions to reduce disaster risk and maximize adaptation.
Job Description
Responsibilities
SNV is seeking a National Project Leader interested in working in the following areas:
- Project Development & Management:
- Lead the development and implementation of NbS projects aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities and the identified technical areas.
- Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and work plans.
- Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure timely and effective project delivery.
- Prepare and submit high-quality project reports and presentations.
- Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical guidance on the application of NbS principles in the Bangladesh context.
- Ensure project activities adhere to best practices in environmental sustainability and disaster risk reduction.
- Promote the use of the Nexus Environmental Assessment Tool (NEAT+) or similar tools to assess environmental impacts and inform project design.
- Collaborate with technical experts and stakeholders to ensure project feasibility, effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitate participatory processes and ensure community ownership and engagement throughout the project cycle.
- Represent the organization at relevant forums and conferences.
- Innovation & Learning:
- Identify and explore innovative NbS approaches and technologies.
- Document project learnings and disseminate knowledge through publications, presentations, and workshops.
- Contribute to the development of best practices and guidance for integrating NbS into humanitarian response.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in environmental science, ecology, environmental engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of professional experience in project management, with a strong focus on environmental projects.
- Proven experience in the application of NbS principles in relevant contexts (e.g., coastal management, urban planning, disaster risk reduction).
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and international standards.
- Experience working with local communities and building strong partnerships.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Additional Information
Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Experience working in developing countries.
- Knowledge of relevant international frameworks and agreements (e.g., Sendai Framework, Paris Agreement).
- Experience with GIS and other relevant software.
- Working USAID projects.
Duty station : Dhaka with visit to project sites
Reportable to : Country Director
Contract Duration : Two (2) years with a possibility of extension depending on performance and availability of funds..
Expected Joining Date : May 2025
Working Hours : Full time (minimum of 40 hours per week)
Salary and benefits : Competitive salary as per organisation salary structure.
