field of activity

The triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution together with the global water crisis pose existential challenges to humanity. New intersectoral approaches, a stronger integration of multilateral processes and a greater use of synergies between the issues are required. To this end, GIZ is supporting the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and its partner countries with two support projects as part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Act Blue project focuses on better system-wide coordination of water activities in the UN development system and a stronger prioritization of the water-climate-ecosystem nexus in the intergovernmental dialogue. The BioClime project focuses on better use of synergies for biodiversity, forest, climate protection and adaptation (e.g. through nature-based solutions) in the negotiations of the CBD and UNFCCC.
