Position Description & Qualifications | Visiting Assistant Professor of Geosciences Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Geosciences to begin September 1, 2025. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or ABD in geomorphology or related field prior to the time of appointment. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal. We seek an individual who is passionate about teaching and working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting, an active and engaged scholar, and an effective mentor for students from diverse backgrounds. Primary responsibilities include classroom and field-based teaching as well as mentoring undergraduate research projects. The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of topics including introductory geoscience, earth-surface processes, watershed hydrology, remote sensing and GIS. Candidates with experience in climate science and environmental science will also be given consideration. Teaching load is two non-lab courses (or one course with two lab sections) per trimester on a 10-week trimester calendar. Laboratory space and modest funds to support research are available. Candidates should have the ability and desire to engage and mentor undergraduates in collaborative research and otherwise connect scholarship with teaching. The Geosciences Department has excellent facilities to support faculty research and teaching, including a total station, a sUAS with thermal and multispectral cameras, research grade GNSS, a sediment lab and two recirculating flumes for physical modeling.
